Guitar Class

Students….I’m looking forward to working with each one of you.  The goal of this class is that you grow as a musician and guitar player. In guitar class you will develop playing skills and music reading skills. Since this is group instruction, you will also experience the excitement of playing with others. I am excited to be your guitar teacher this year and I anticipate many great things from you as we progress through this course. For detailed information about this class, click here for the class syllabus.

This is a beginning guitar classYou will be following a step-by-step method for reading music for the guitar. You will be issued a guitar, your method book and your guitar folder. All of the graded assignments are found on this page. You will have an Assignment Chart to help monitor your progress.

You will be expected to practice your guitar outside of class time daily!  Most of your grade will come from Playing Tests (see Graded Assignments). To do you best, you will need to be focused during classroom instruction and committed to practice at home at least 20 minutes each day.

PRACTICE RECORD: Guitar students are expected to study/practice their music at home. Practice Records are a way of documenting that this is being done.  Practice Records are to be turned in weekly. Get in the habit of doing this because it is worth 10% of your grade! Sheets of the Practice Records are available in the classroom. Click here to download and print out the Practice Record sheet.

One of the Graded Assignments is a Project on a famous guitarist. Once this assignment is started in class, you will have to the end of the first quarter (of the semester) to submit your Project!

If you miss a few classes due to illness or something, make sure to check with Mr. Otto on how to catch up. If you need extra help at any time, you can arrange to stay after school to get some extra help.  I also encourage you to seek help from others in the class. If you are like me, sometimes the best progress comes when it happens with friends!

Make sure to get your Instrument Rental Agreement Form signed and returned.
